Brighter and smarter - upgrading the lighting at CWS Workwear

With an advanced laundry and sustainable production, CWS Workwear creates and delivers durable workwear that protects both users and the environment. Now the company is taking a further step to reduce its environmental impact by replacing all fluorescent luminaires in the laundry, warehouse, offices and goods reception with modern LED luminaires.

This change is not only an energy-efficient solution - with energy savings of 50-70% compared to previous lighting - but also provides a warmer, more comfortable and more functional light in the premises.

Electricians Joel and Kristoffer are on site at the CWS facility in Skara and are carrying out the replacement in stages. At the same time, they are laying new cables to enable future expansion and presence control of the lighting. By thinking long-term right from the start, the right luminaires can be chosen right away, further reducing electricity consumption and creating a more sustainable working environment.

One of the challenges of the job is that operations are in full swing during installation. Joel and Kristoffer therefore need to work smoothly and adapt to the production - all while freshly washed clothes are rolling along the lines.

Old fluorescent tubes and luminaires are transported back to Provektor, where we handle them in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Fluorescent tubes and low-energy lamps contain small amounts of mercury as well as rare-earth powder, which requires careful handling.

In 2023, new EU legislation came into force, which means that ordinary fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescent lamps can no longer be sold in the EU. Mercury-containing fluorescent lamps are being phased out to make way for more energy-efficient LED lighting. The Swedish Energy Agency estimates that the phase-out of mercury-containing fluorescent lamps will take about five years, ending in 2028. This means that many housing associations, businesses and individuals will need to replace a large part of their lighting.
